The Experiences when Kundalini is awakened

An Overview

Kundalini is a samskrita word, which does mean the coiled one. It is believed in Hatha Yoga that there is Life Force Energy latent below the bottom chakra (energy center) - Mooladhara (root base), in three and half coiled form within everybody facing it's face downward. When it is awakened with some Yogic Kriyas (exercises) it raises it's head and begin to move in any channel, at that, moment if it is penetrated into middle and main channel of Nadis (psychic network) named Shushumna (equally warm) naadi, which is located in the spinal cord, it moves upward crossing each chakra one after another to the top chakra named Sahashrara (innumerable petals of psychic lotus), where shakti (Energy) unites with the Shiva (Soul).

Generally Kundalini power remains sleeping, and when it is sleeping one's mood and energy level is low esteemed. One feels despair, gloominess, ill mood of mind, lack ness of energy, fatigue, exhausted and lack of enthusiasm. In lay minded people it usually remains sleeping. But when it is awakened with some techniques one's energy level is high, elevated mood and exalted state of mind. This is called in Hatha Yoga the Unmani Avastha (transcendental mood), which is the aim of all types of Yoga and spiritual disciplines. That is the estate which is desired by every one even the ones who have annihilated all worldly desires. It is by the Ancient Indian Sages that one find every desire fulfilled. Reaching at this state you become the beloved of Universe. A very attractive vibrations do emanate from your being and all the sentient lives are bound to come into your influence. There is great effect in your gestures and speech so long you reside in awakened kundalini mood. As The Law of Attraction works always greatly, so the noble and good beings get attracted towards you. The auspiciousness becomes a great follower of yourself. In that state whatever you think and decide that happens in the Universe. That mood compels all of the stars of universe in your favor. There are innumerable benefits of the mood while Kundalini is awakened. A Yogi usually lives in this state.

Chakras in Kundalini Yoga

Chakras, also known as spiritual energy centers, plays a great role in Kundalini Yoga. They are components of our internal energy anatomy corresponding to various aspects of our nervous system. They are vital internal mechanisms through which consciousness, as prana, functions in us. When Kundalini rises it moves upward and crossing each chakra one by one enters eventually into the last seventh chakra where the Union takes place, which is the aim of Kundalini Yoga.

Kinds of Chakras

There are seven Chakras as mentioned below:

1. Muladhara (root or foundation) - This is the first chakra, located at the perineum, where kundalini energy is first awakened.

2. Svadisthana (self dwelling place) - This is the second chakra, which is located in the area of the internal reproductive organs. It is the dwelling place of the great storehouse of pranic energy, the sexual vitality. Once activated, vast energy flows up from there and spiritually illuminates the entire nervous system.

3. Manipura (city of jewel) - The third chakra, located in the naval/solar plexus area, is associated with digestion, including the higher metabolism that produces enlightenment promoting organic compounds in the GI (gastrointestinal) tract that radiate sparkling energy. Hence the reference to gems.

4. Anahata (unstruck sound) - The fourth chakra, located in the heart area. This is where the yoga practitioner first experiences the vastness of inner space, which is often filled with celestial (unstruck) sounds and other inner sensory experiences.

5. Vishuddhi (Extra purity) - The fifth chakra, located at the throat. This is a gateway for pranic energy to rise into the head. It is also a key center for speech and communications. With daily yoga practices, purification and opening occur naturally in the throat, and the internal and external expressions of energy through this chakra open up simultaneously.

6. Ajna (command) - The sixth chakra, also known as the third eye. It encompasses the neuro-biology from the center of the brow to the center of the head, and the medulla oblongata (brain stem). The ajna is the command center controlling the ecstatic aspect of the enlightenment process, which is progressive and safe awakening of kundalini.

7. Sahasrar (thousand-petaled lotus) - The seventh chakra, located at the crown of the head (corona radiata). Awakening and entering it leads to the merging of individual consciousness with infinite divine consciousness. Awakening the sahasrar prematurely can lead to many troubles in a nervous system that has not been sufficiently purified beforehand.

Awakening the ajna (third eye) first prepares the entire nervous system, while at the same time indirectly opening the sahasrar opens rest all six of chakras.

Role of Naadis (Psychic Networks) in Kundalini Yoga

Naadi:
Naadi is translated as "conduits", "nerves", "veins", "vessels" or "arteries" - constitute the composition of the subtle or yogic body in Tantra. In Yogic Science it is considered a channel of energy. Like the Chinese meridians, the nadis constitute channels of flow of subtle vital force (prana). Nadis are not nerves but rather channels for the flow of consciousness. The literal meaning of nadi is'flow'. Just as the negative and positive forces of electricity flow through complex circuits, in the same way, pram shako (vital force) and manas shako (mental force) flow through every part of our body via these nadis. Through naadis the stimuli flow like an electric current from one point to another.

Kinds of Naadis: The idea of nadis first appears in the earliest Upanishads (7th-8th century b.c.e.). It is said by Indian Rishis (Seers) that there are 72 thousands naadis in human body, which come out of heart and are spreading all over body as a network. This concept was developed in the later Upanishads - from 2nd century b.c.e. to the 2nd century c.e. and later - and the nascent Yoga and Tantric schools. The Kshurika-Upanishad and later the Hathayogapradikpa also mentions about the 72,000 nadis in a body. Other figures have been proposed - 80,000 (Trisikhibramanopanishad), 200,000, or 300,000 (e.g. Siva Samhita, Goraksha Sataka, Goraksha Paddhati).  Amongst them, there are 10 major naadis - 1. Ida, 2. Pingala, 3. Sushumna, 4. Gandhari, 5. Hastijihva, 6. Pusa, 7. Yusasvini, 8. Alambusha, 9. Kuhu and 10. Shankhini.

Chhandogya Upnishad says “A hundred and one are the arteries of the heart, one of them leads up to the crown of the head. Going upward through that, one becomes immortal. (Chhandogya Upanishad 8.6.6)”

The Experiences when Kundalini is awakened

Whenever the Kundalini Power awakens all of heresies get extinct and that one feels like a shaggy lion who knows no fear or frenzy, entirely devoid of nervous agitation, and free from shyness and trepidation. The vibes of fearlessness, courage, calmness, sloth lessness, earnestness emanate from the one who is Kundalini Power Awakened. That one becomes invincible by even the gods, then what about the evil ones. In front of him a heretical viewer feels like a serpent surrounded by the Garudas (the snake-eating mythical birds), like a jackal surrounded by boa-constrictors, or a bear by buffaloes, like a frog pursued by a serpent, or a deer by a panther, like a snake in the hands of a snake charmer, or a rat played with by a cat, or a devil charmed by an exorcist, like the moon when it is seized by Rahu, like a snake caught in a basket, or a bird in a cage, or a fish in a net, like a man who has lost his way in a dense forest haunted by wild beasts, like a Yaksha (ogre) who has sinned against Vessavana (the king of ogres and fairies), or like a god whose term of life as a god has reached its end.

Some instant results as mentioned below are realized just after Kundalini awakening:

One of leading teachers of Kundalini Yoga Nirmala Devi discloses once her experiences of Kundalini Awakening - "I saw my kundalini rising very fast like a telescope opening out and it was a beautiful color that you see when the iron is heated up, a red rose color, but extremely cooling and soothing. The potential for all humanity to gain spiritual self awareness was realized at this time." which she characterizes as a "historical process of en-masse self-realization and inner transformation.
